Now in its 28th year Pewter Live 2016 was a tremendous success. The variety and quality of entries was outstanding. The Pewter Live Sub-committee Chaired by Richard Parsons put on a spectacular show with the raw element of Tin influencing the design of the displays and catalogue. There are two competitions: the Student and the Open. The Student competition has three categories each with a brief:
Open - Student, Decorative Arts, and Jewellery.
This year the Pewter Live sub-committee, chaired by Richard Parsons, devised a brief for the Open competition 2016 which asked entrants to produce a pewter item, or range of pewter items, that could be used by the Worshipful Company of Pewterers in its day-to-day activities. It was specified that the entry might be for exclusive Company use or to enhance the Company’s Hall letting business. Many of the entrants have created items that illustrate a strong Company identity, with references to pewter making heritage, the City of London, Charity and the Company’s heraldry. After careful deliberation the winners and runners up were chosen with the prizes presented by Professor Frances Corner OBE, Head of London College of Fashion and Pro Vice-Chancellor of University of the Arts London, on Thursday 26th May.
Pewter Live is a wonderful opportunity for aspiring designers to gain not only a valuable commission but a great deal of publicity. The three day event also had a shop selling pewter ware by leading manufacturers and Craftsmen. For a full catalogue please see the link at the bottom of the page.
