Richard is Chairman and CEO of Odgers Berndtson which is the UK’s leading executive search firm. The firm has offices around the world and works in an unusually wide range of industry sectors including financial services, manufacturing, health, government, education and sport.
He is Chairman of the National Employer Advisory Board, a quango within the MOD which advises Ministers and Service Chiefs on the MOD’s relationship with the civilian employers of Reservists. He is also a Governor of Westonbirt School and Chairman of the Holfords of Westonbirt Trust.
He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge and The London Business School. He served in the Coldstream Guards for 10 years before becoming a headhunter. He spent 14 years with Norman Broadbent where he started and was MD of its Hong Kong office. He later became Group MD of its parent company BNB Resources plc which also owned training, advertising and PR businesses.
He was Chairman of the Cotswold Conservative Association and then of the Gloucestershire Group of Conservative Associations and later a Party Treasurer.
His father was Master in 1988.
He is married to Lucy and has three children; Elisabeth, Alice and James.
His interests include reading, hunting, gardening and politics.

Captain Paddy Watson Royal Navy - Clerk
Captain Paddy Watson joined the Company in July 2006 after 37 years in the Royal Navy. His sea appointments included 2 years as second in command of a fast patrol boat in the Royal Danish Navy and command of a patrol boat squadron in Oman, where he was awarded the Sultan's Distinguished Service Medal. He saw war service in the Falklands as operations officer of HMS ACTIVE. Subsequently, he served as second in command of the frigate HMS APOLLO and, later, in command of HMS AMAZON. Promoted Captain in 1996, he spent 3 years as Head of Maritime Intelligence on the Defence Intelligence Staff. He then served as Chief of Maritime Operations, NATO Headquarters, Naples. His final appointment was UK Defence Adviser in Brunei, where he was responsible for the UK/Brunei defence relationship. Married to Fitty, he lives in Norfolk with 3 children plus assorted dogs and horses.
